The teachers at ANS are amazing. During visits to the school, I'm constantly watching them to pick up new ways to be a better parent and help my child learn how to get along with others.

Ashmont Nuresry School maintains a maximum adult/student ratio of 1 to 6. There are always three certified teachers working in the classroom whenever school is in session. The teachers are supported by a parent teacher during the regular school day program.
One of Ashmont Nursery Shool’s three Lead Teachers, and also the Director, Mary has been a part of the Ashmont Nursery School community since 1989. Mary first became involved with ANS when her daughter, Alice, attended school here. Mary was therefore an ANS parent doing Parent-Teaching and working on the Program Committee before becoming a Teacher the following year when her son James joined ANS too. (Note: Mary, James and Ea, our Red-eared slider turtle all came in 1990.) Mary attended Wheelock College and holds a BS in Early Childhood Education and an MS in Educational Leadership and Administration. Mary has taught in a variety of preschool programs and settings, directed a Toddler-Kindergarten school, and consulted with several organizations on their educational programs for young children. Mary has a wide variety of interests: traveling; enjoying nature; reading; gardening; and, most of all, spending time with her family, friends, the children and families from the past the present at ANS and the community. Mary’s goal is to continue to learn and enjoy every day and every person she encounters in life.
A native of Dorchester, Edna Speller has been a steady presence at ANS since 1997. She is the proud mother of Brandon and Yolanda, now adults. Edna has attended lead teacher classes at Wheelock College. Prior to working with young children, Edna was employed at Polaroid Corporation, but she is pleased to say that ANS has been her favorite place to work. Edna's interests include writing short stories, plays and gardening. She always looks forward to spending time with her large extended family here in the city. Edna always dreamed of working with young children. She finds her colleagues, the children and the entire ANS community to be this dream come-true!
Kerri Klugman, ANS's newest teacher, started in 2006. Kerri is always excited by her work with all the wonderful parents and teachers at ANS. She has her BA from the University of Massachusetts and her Masters from Wheelock College. She brings a wide variety of experiences in early childhood settings including teaching five- year-olds in El Salvador, four-year-olds at Tufts University Laboratory School, and teaching Head Start in upstate New York. Kerri speaks Spanish almost fluently, American Sign Language a little bit, and enjoys yoga and the outdoors - gardening, horseback riding, hiking, camping and canoeing. She loves to incorporate the arts in her teaching including singing, movement and sculpture. She loves playing and learning with young children!
